It's American Heart Month. The CDC has recently commented that most Americans are getting more protein than is necessary in their diets. They suggest no more than 10 - 35% of ones diet to come from protein. Most or the protein eaten in this country Carries with it a staggering saturated fat content. If we focus on our fruits and veggies and on these suggested percentages of LEAN PROTEIN in our diet, we significantly lower our risk of Heart Disease!
BOUT TIME SOMEBODY ELSE SAID IT! Amen to that!!

Egg Whites:    Scrambled, Microwave, Sandwich

Good Source of Protein

Milk has protein, I had to be informed and reminded of this fact, because milk is such a staple food item or beverage, that we have the tendency to forget it's protein contents.

Great point...dairy products in general are a great source of protein (focusing of course on the lower fat opitons) such as skim milk, low fat yogurt, low fat cottage cheese and cheeses in general etc.
Yes, A.J. - all nuts are also very good protein sources as well as in almond butter-peanut butter and the like, but again, looking for organic versions here is key. Across the board beans are also a good option, along with edamame beans and don't forget tofu...the list goes on. But the CDC's point is that in this country we are obsessed with protein, getting way to much of it and unfortunately, we appear to be eating more than our fair share of saturated fat soaked meat products..instead of leaner meats and other healthier options such as pork loin, fish, egg whites, nuts, low fat dairy...all of the aboved mentioned items and Many MORE. Egg Whites, As you had mentioned Ina - just happen to get the top rating on the protein scale, with each egg white containing only approx. 18 calories and packing 4 grams of protein. I must admit I LIVE ON THESE for my protein sources as well as fish, nuts etc. AS we focus on 'HEART MONTH', let us look into such matters with great passion and zeal...for this one heart is the only one we have and we should take great care in caring for IT!1
